This position is ideal for an individual with 5 years of media relations experience with a proven track record of delivering high-quality media results for brands, specifically healthcare, tech, and startups/venture capital. The ideal candidate will have strong, established relationships with media, and thrive in a non-corporate, results-driven environment. Ideally, this person would have previous agency experience,

In this role, you’d be responsible for partnering with the agency’s account teams to create compelling and effective media strategies, building and nurturing relationships with trade and national media, executing media outreach efforts on behalf of clients and serving as a mentor to other members of the team who are also focused on media relations. Your clients will include both startups and big brands, all with a heavy national and trade emphasis.

Every day is different, which keeps it fun and fresh, but some of your specific responsibilities will include:

 
 

  • Media Relations

    • Deliver strong, positive results that are tied directly to individual clients’ objectives, including the right messaging to the right audience at the right time.

    • Adapt media strategies based on the news cycle, including but not limited to, newsjacking, foreshadowing industry trends, and thinking through the growth cycle of a client.

    • Build and maintain relationships with media and key influencers across relevant industries relevant to the clients/projects on which you’re working.

    • Contribute to the development of client media strategies to ensure we’re reaching the right targets through the right mediums with the right messaging. After the client approves the plan,, research and develop compelling, newsworthy storylines to deliver earned media opportunities for clients.

    • Draft and send media pitches on an ongoing basis and coach account teams as needed.

    • Execute media outreach efforts for identified projects.

    • Handle interview prep and staffing and follow-up appropriately to ensure accuracy of information reported

    • Act as an unofficial mentor/coach for the account coordinators/account executives as they continue to learn how to master various media relations skills (e.g. pitch writing, developing media relationships, creating a strong media list, etc.)

    Research

    • Monitor trends relevant to our clients’ industries and provide actionable recommendations to capitalize on those trends.

    • Monitor PR-industry (traditional and digital) trends to bring new and forward-thinking media relations ideas to clients.

    • Demonstrate an understanding of complex industries and subjects as they relate to our clients.

    • Stay abreast of major changes to different industries focused on B2B efforts.

    Internal

    • Develop partnerships with internal account managers and clients (as needed).

    • Partner with the account teams to deliver results-driven monthly reports for clients.

    • Consistently deliver results within scope/retainer and on deadline.

    • Manage multiple projects at once and prioritize multiple deadlines.

    • Personify Geben’s House Rules and inspire others on the team to do the same.

    • Support an environment of people and teams that value collaboration, teamwork, and exceeding client expectations.
